As the deadline for depositing the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes gets over, PM Modi moved a step ahead and launched the digital payments app ‘BIHM’. It will facilitate e-transactions with just a thumb impression.
PM launched the much awaited digital payment app at a DigiDhan mela in Delhi. While addressing the event, he said that the payment with biometric fingerprint will begin in India within next two weeks.
With the BHIM app, you’ll only require your thumb to pay. In the past, illiterate people were called ‘angutha-chaap’ but now your thumb is your bank. It has become your identity now,” PM Modi said at the DigiDhan Mela in Delhi.
BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is a mobile payment application and a re-branded version of UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) modes of e-payment. PM Modi also mentioned that the app is simple to use without internet connectivity.
