Major India events in 2016: Noteban, Jayalalithaa and more!

As we are about to say goodbye to 2016 and usher in 2017 with lots of hope, goodwill and ofcourse… celebrations, here is a list of events that shook our nation to the depths.

1. Demonetisation
It is one of the highly debated topic and one of the many reform steps taken by the Modi government. PM Modi announced the decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes in a nationwide address on 8th of November.
PM Modi has been urging the common man to move towards the digital economy. However, several steps have been taken in order to ease out the problem that the common man is facing. Soon after the ban on 500 and 1000 rupee notes, the government reintroduced Rs 500 note as well as rolled out 2000 rupee note.

2. Jayalalithaa no more
One of the most shocking news in the year 2016 was the passing away of Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa. Hospitalised in September, she was under strict observation for the coming two months. Despite the best of efforts, the TN CM couldn’t survive the fatal heart attack.

3. Surgical strike
Bravo! Yes that’s what most of the Indians think about the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian armed forces in PoK.
Indian forces destroyed terror launch pads on the night of September 28 and 29. BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi took this highly appreciated decision.
4. Pathankot and Uri attack
These attacks remains one of the most dastardly attacks on our security forces.
Indian Air Force’s Pathankot base was attacked by six terrorists in January. The gunbattle went on for three days. India lost a total of seven soldiers in the attack. In September, four terrorists attacked a camp of the Indian Army in Uri. The suicide attack killed 17 Army soldiers and injured several others.
